Important notice regarding proceedings involving the Crown. In accordance with the notice of the Superior Court of Justice and the Ontario Court of Justice, in both new and ongoing proceedings where the Crown is a party, all parties should refer to His Majesty the King rather than Her Majesty the Queen in every new document submitted to the court for filing or issuance. This applies even where JSO currently identifies the Crown as Her Majesty the Queen. Proceedings that were commenced in the name of Her Majesty the Queen will continue in the name of His Majesty the King.
Parties do not need to bring a motion to amend the title of ongoing proceedings to refer to His Majesty the King.
The court’s case management system is being updated by court staff on an ongoing basis to display His Majesty the King in place of Her Majesty the Queen for proceedings involving the Crown. Documents in the court files are not being altered.
Parties are not required to file amended documents or bring a motion to change previously filed materials to refer to His Majesty the King.
